Barry Johnson, Colorado born and Nebraska raised.
Brought up farming wheat and raising dairy cattle,
Barry started out with all the ingredients
necessary to being a successful rodeo cowboy. He
was born in the small western town of Holyoke,
Colorado. His family moved to a wheat and dairy
farm in southwest Nebraska while he was still
young, thus giving Barry the qualities he needed to
become a rodeo cowboy. He graduated from High
School in Imperial, Nebraska and later went on to
study biology at Chadron State College,
Barry was riding bulls by the age of 15. He found his destinyin the excitement of the rodeo challenge and in the cheers of the crowds. His rodeo career changed for him at the age of 19, when during a rodeo performance, Barry was asked to fill in for an injured bullfighter. After this Barry decided to help out his fellow bull riders by acting as the Bullfighter. He also found that his natural sense of humor was enjoyed by the crowds. This later grew to a fulltime career of Bullfighting, Rodeo Clown, and Barrelman. During a wild down act in 1988, Barry earned the nickname of "Boom Boom" when a fiery display laid him out with a head injury.
Since then, "Explosive!" is the best way to describe Barry's performances. Timing is everything in comedy and Barry knows just how to make the crowd roar with laughter. Barry is known far and wide as the entertainer that will 'awaken' a crowd with the unknown and the unexpected. His car act "Little Red" captivates an audience with humorous lines, slapstick comedy and colorful excitement of fireworks. Barry's trademark act is the "Beauty Box" this is an act that only he can do, it changes all the time and has an ending that no one but "Boom Boom" can ever pull off. While he may poke fun at human nature, he will always stand up to the challenges of protecting the cowboys or clowning with 'a bull but YOU are sure to get a laugh no matter what he is doing.
Outside of rodeo, Barry has been married to his wife Sheila for 18 years and he thanks her for being his organizer and support in his life. His love for animals has also given him another passion in life, taxidermy. In his 30-year passion he has created some incredible mounts, some of which are all over the Unites States as well as in Cabel stores. He has two very successful children that are both in the medical field.
While meeting the challenges of professional rodeo, he is often asked by kids "how" do you do fhat, adults want to know "why" he does something.
